Four manufacturers of transvaginal surgical mesh products have reportedly entered settlement negotiations over more than 30,000 lawsuits filed by women who were injured due to complications from these devices. Experts say that as many as 50,000 transvaginal mesh lawsuits against C.R. Bard, Endo Health Solutions, Boston Scientific, and two other companies many eventually be settled.
The decision of these companies to discuss settlement for the thousands of surgical mesh lawsuits they face comes following decisions by court after court in favor of women who suffered serious injuries because of these products. Last year, a jury in California ordered C.R. Bard to pay $5.5 million to a woman who was injured by an Avaulta mesh implant. In February of this year, Johnson & Johnson was found liable in the amount of $11 million to another woman who suffered injuries caused by the company’s Gynecare Prolift mesh.
